Many of the materials I use in bag making are offcuts – I haunt the curtain and main fabric stalls on the market – or recycled. Today for example, in response to a request to add backpack straps to a more traditional bag shape I thought I would have a trial. I took a cheap faux leather skirt bought in a moment of madeness and whose fit was strange, unpicked it, removed all hardware and made a fully lined mini backpack with an internal zipped pocket. I doubt I will add straps as it was only intended as a learning bag but I was pleased with the overall result in that I reckon I could now easily transform a traditional bag pattern into a backpack.
